Prompting Positive Change for a Sober Future
According to research, less than 10% of substance misusers ever seek addiction treatment. Because each person is impacted by the relational symptoms of addiction and its consequences, support networks face enormous challenges. It’s common to hear that someone must hit their lowest point before they are ready to accept assistance. Tragically, this may result in avoidable addiction-related fatalities. But there is a kind and practical substitute to think about. an intervention.
How Does an Intervention Work?
While interventions can often seem intimidating due to unfamiliarity, fears of confrontation, or worries about damaging relationships, they are a powerful tool in the fight against addiction. When conducted by an experienced professional, an intervention can pierce through the veil of denial, harness the power of familial love and commitment, and inspire individuals grappling with addiction to take the first steps towards treatment.
Addiction often weaves a web of denial, leading those affected to believe they’re in control, which is why problematic behaviours can persist, and treatment seems unnecessary. It is in such cases that interventions become crucial, providing a wake-up call for individuals who may have been dismissing their loved ones’ pleas for help.
An intervention may be beneficial for a family or support system concerned about the well-being of an addict who is rebuffing their requests for assistance.
How Should I Set Up an Intervention?
Starting an intervention with our team at CATCH Recovery begins with a comprehensive assessment. This initial conversation allows us to gain insights into the addict’s history and mental health, and based on this, we evaluate the need for either an in-person or online intervention.
Next, we pair you with an interventionist, a guide who’ll support you through the process, helping design an empathetic, shame-free, and impactful intervention. Prior to the intervention, you’ll participate in several preparatory meetings, focusing on devising the most effective strategy to persuade your loved one to accept treatment.
You’re never alone during an intervention. With your interventionist leading, the process becomes a journey of emotional exploration, designed to break down walls of denial and resistance.

What Happens During An Intervention?
Your interventionist and you will invite your loved one to a previously agreed upon location, and here each family member will share a pre-written letter, crafted under the interventionist’s guidance. These letters express your love and concern for the person, highlight the negative impacts of addiction, and include a request for them to seek treatment, along with the consequences of refusal.
Each member of your family will read a letter that was written beforehand with the assistance of your interventionist during the intervention. These letters will explain why you love the person suffering from addiction and that you care about their health, as well as the negative effects addiction has had on your life. They will also ask the person to attend treatment and outline the repercussions if they refuse it.
If your loved one agrees to treatment, our team at CATCH Recovery has pre-arranged protocols in place for immediate admission to one of our residential rehab facilities – Smarmore Castle in Ireland, or Castle Craig in Scotland. Each of these facilities boasts a team of professionals ready to evaluate your loved one’s needs and create a personalized treatment plan.
The interventionist will assist each family member in enforcing the repercussions of your loved one’s refusal to accept help if they refuse to enter treatment.
What Takes Place After An Intervention?
Inpatient or residential rehab offers a safe, serene, drug-free space where your loved one can start their recovery journey. The duration can vary from one to six months, based on various factors discussed during the assessment. All treatment programmes at our facilities are tailored to the individual, offering 24/7 medical supervision, evidence-based psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and a supportive community of peers on the same journey.
The CATCH Recovery team will implement a pre-arranged strategy for speedy admission at one of our Castle Health Group residential rehabs, Castle Craig in Scotland and Smarmore Castle in Ireland, or another treatment facility if necessary, provided your loved one agrees to seek treatment. It will be decided in advance which treatment centre is preferred so that preparations may be made for a speedy admittance. Your loved one will be evaluated by the professional staff at the inpatient facility, and a treatment plan will be created for them in light of their requirements.
